Discover Egypt’s Nile River the Big Sista way. No rushing from place to place trying to squeeze in all of Egypt’s wonders in a week, where the only people you meet are on your bus. This focus of this trip puts you in Luxor, the ancient city of Thebes with time to meet the locals, explore the quiet villages, or go back to something you really enjoyed. Our days include one planned adventure for a few hours on most days, so there is time for you. Take photos go for a walk with a new friend, take a camel ride on the banks of the river or read a book in the warm sunshine that is Egypt’s winter. We will be situated on the west bank of Luxor where life is quiet and donkey carts and buffaloes are part of everyday life. However, just across the river is a bustling city complete with ali baba style souks. The east bank is home to the colossal temple complex of Karnak and the Luxor temple. A less known, attraction is the local bakery that turns out he most delicious breads and buns and cakes hot every afternoon and the small stalls that make fresh falafael for breakfast.
Egypt Nile Focus
Day one we see the pyramids, eat in the best restaurant in Cairo and see the sun do down over the sphinx from our hotel roof top. And that’s just the beginning !
Together we will visit the grand mosque, city of the dead and the old bazaar before jumping on the over night first class sleeper train as we head south to Aswan.
We spend one night in Aswan which is a free day for you to explore the temples and markets. The following day we travel by private car to Luxor taking in Esna (Temple of Khnum), Edfu (Temple of Horus).
North African sun sets and Felucca’s
A Felucca is a study wide wooden boat with a single large sail, the design of which has remained largely unchanged for millennia. On this trip you will see North African sunsets as we sail in our own Felucca, drinking tea with our local friends as we talk about life in this part of the world and what makes Luxor so special to so many.
Take in a sunset from the top of the mountainside, The Valley of the Kings. Here we will see the tomb of Tutankhamen the majestic temple of Hatshepsut and spectacular vista high above the nile.
Visit the Karnak Temple complex, the oldest and biggest temple complex in the world. Take your time. This one is spectacular.
We stay together for five days in a quite location on the west bank of the Nile in the smaller City of Luxor, the ancient city of Thebes. Here we will cook with local friends in their homes, sail on gentle waters in Felucas and explore colossal temples and tombs. We stay in a beautiful and well appointed compound style guest house designed and decorated in Nubian custom.
