Our Comfort tour is a meander through the highlights of Morocco. We start in Casablanca for our winter adventure, through some of Morocco’s rich and beautiful heritage locations. There is so much to see and do and so many beautiful places to do nothing and see everything.
Morocco Women’s Comfort Explorer
Big Sista loves a bit of comfort !
One night each way in Casablanca to see the markets and the Grand Mosque before jumping onto a first class train to Fes. We stay a few days with our friends in a beautiful recently restored Rhiad in the heart of the Medina, the ancient wall city. Next we drive the short distance for an overnight stop in a three star hotel in Chefchaouen, prettiest place we ever saw. This is the blue city, something you will never forget. The next day we drive to Tangiers to catch the Marrakesh Express, in a first class sleeper, to Marrakesh. A couple of days spent here, in another beautifully restored Rhiad. There is so much to see and do in Marrakesh. High above the medina stands the Moorish minaret of 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque., behind that the Atlas Mountains, snow topped at this time of year. We will visit the Photography Museum of Marrakesh, a stunning collection of photos dating back to 1870 and sample street food in the medina This market is the stuff of legends and you don’t have to stretch your imagination too far to see it as it once was. It is said that all roads in Africa lead to Marrakesh. Our last stop is ,Essaouira a small town and port on the coast. The medina rises high above the ocean on huge walls. In the summer the beaches are popular with locals and tourists, our adventure is in the winter and the town will be quite and the beaches empty Here we stay in another Rhiad, Each Rhiad tells a different Moroccan story. From here it’s a short bus ride into Marrakesh or just time to chill with new friends explore the markets and small sea side villages. We return to Casablanca on a short train ride during the day. Our last day is in Casablanca with a farewell optional dinner at the local “grande March “ before heading off to the airport.
A Rhiad is a traditional inwards facing Moroccan House. From the outside it can appear as only a door in a wall. Open the door into a large courtyard, or salon, with a fountain, gardens, and of course bedecked with the wonderful carpets and woven textiles that are signature to this part of the world. Walls and pillars are covered in the small hand crafted tiles, each one a unique work of art. Look up to see balconies running the width of the house, explore the twists and turns of corridors hidden within walls. Big Sista has selected each of our Rhiads as outstanding examples of Moroccan beauty and hospitality.
Shopping in Morocco
Shopping in Morocco is a delight. Haggle in the markets, called Souks here, with us for woven textiles and rugs. Big Sister knows a thing or two about haggling :) and knows how to keep it fun. Leather is extraordinary in Morocco, crafted and tanned in traditional methods right in Fes. We will wander the spice markets sample dried fruits and some of the best marsipan ever ! Pottery and woven baskets line the streets. Leather shoes in every color and spices to set your senses a blaze. Each town has its specialty however there is nowhere like Fes to get your shopping on ! Whether you are buying or just looking the souks are as inviting as they are exciting.
