What will I wear in Varanasi in December…..

You may think of India as being hot and humid, and you would be mostly right. In the North of India, it gets quite cold during the winter months. On Big Sista’s December and January trip to Varanasi, it will be cold.

Take advantage of the many woolen shawls you will see on sale everywhere. Wear them as a big scarf, or over your head local style. Both men and women wear these and they come in every color and at every price point.

You will definitely appreciate having a warm jacket to wear in the mornings and evenings. During the day and in the sun you could tie it around your waist and it will come in handy as something to sit on too.

Socks come in handy in our accommodation, where its strictly shoes off. You will want shoes that are slip on slip off as you will be removing them every time you go inside just about everywhere except a restaurant. I wear my slip on Converse sneakers, no laces and they are easy to pop in my bag instead of leaving them in front of a temple.

Tights and a long shirt ( with socks ) are usually my go-to for wearing in my room and communal areas of our accommodation. I bring several pairs black footless tights and wear them pretty much everywhere with different long tops or under a skirt or dress and jumper. I also bring a pair of light weight jeans and a pair of long baggy black pants. I bring a puffer jacket that gets worn every day.

You will shop! Clothes are cheap and its easy to get something made, usually within the day. Most women on my trips will have a beautiful long top ( kurta style ) made.

Getting your every day clothes washed is easy on a Big Sista Adventure with a pick up and next day return service available in our accommodation.

Early Mornings are misty and cold in Varanasi during the winter months.

A light jumper long sleeve t-shirt, jacket. and shawl are all on for this time of day and you can peel off the layers as the sun comes out and warms up the day.
